Microneedling Aftercare

Microneedling has become one of the most popular “lunchtime procedures” thanks to its ability to offer incredible results on a range of skin concerns, minimising the appearance of acne, scars, wrinkles, enlarged pores, pigmentation and so much more. It’s minimally invasive, quick, efficient, and often requires little to no downtime.

The best bit?

Within several days to weeks, you will notice a smoother, brighter, and more radiant appearance, with the full effects of the treatment continuing several months and even a year later.

Microneedling is an entirely natural process. The micro-injuries created by the Dermapen 4 device, help stimulate collagen and elastin production, leaving your skin visibly plumper, brighter and bouncier – and that’s just the start!

What you may not realise, is that the needling procedure is only one piece of the puzzle. While it is certainly beneficial on its own, you won’t see the dramatic rejuvenation that’s possible when the skin is supported with the correct aftercare at home.

We have put together a few simple (but crucial) things to accelerate your microneedling results. And who doesn’t want a smoother, more youthful complexion faster?

After your treatment…

There may be a sunburn-like redness to the skin that shouldn’t last longer than 2 days, and in many cases, will fade within just a few hours.

To reduce the appearance of this redness (because…it’s an in and out procedure after all), we recommend using Dp Dermaceuticals Hyla Active, rich in hydrating Hyaluronic Acid along with the miracle product Cover Recover that both covers redness immediately but soothes and calms the feeling of heat and even protects your skin from the sun!

Outside of using Cover Recover, it is essential to avoid using makeup after the treatment. It is crucial to let the skin “breathe” and recover for 24 hours post treatment.

The skin channels are open, and using a makeup brush can penetrate the pores, and could lead to infection. The same goes for avoiding sweating, as you sweat the pores reopen and the bacteria on your skin may enter the skin punctures resulting in a reaction or infection.

You MUST avoid sun exposure for at least 3 weeks after the Dermapen treatment because the area treated will be more prone to burning and increased pigmentation with the development of brown blotches and freckling during this period. Apply a good quality sunscreen frequently and daily.

As always it is important to stay well hydrated before and after your procedure, this will help the skin heal and speed up the rejuvenation process.

Post microneedling, you need to support skin with products that maintain the skin’s integrity, minimise discomfort and downtime, encourage a quicker recovery and boosts results. Dp Dermaceuticals does just that.

Maintaining a good skincare routine with Dp Dermaceuticals

If you’re investing in microneedling, there is no question about it, you will get better results if you support your skin journey at home. Read on to discover our suggested products to get you “wow, your skin is glowing” results.

1.     Cleanse
After you receive a Dermapen Treatment, you want to make sure the potent actives in your serums and moisturisers can reach optimal skin layers. This makes cleansing your skin a must! We love Tri-phase cleanser, as it not only cleanses away dirt and impurities but gently exfoliates. For problematic skin, opt for CLR Foam Cleanser or CliniPrep.

2.     Penetrate

Serums truly are where all the magic happens. They penetrate the deeper layers of skin to promote regeneration. Hyla Active is your go-to in the range. An intense serum, containing bio-active ingredients of zinc and Vitamin B5 which aid in skin regeneration and repair for a more youthful appearance.

3.     Correct

Incorporating a corrector in your routine after your serum, can help tackle skin battles such as ageing, pigmentation, acne scars, scarring, dark circles, or skin prone to breakouts.

4.     Moisturise

Your skin needs a regular boost of hydration, especially after microneedling, which can leave the skin feeling especially dry. Vitamin Rich Repair is formulated to boost Dermapen results and combined with the anti-ageing night treatment of Retinal Active (introduced 3 days after your procedure), expect ultimate regeneration.

5.     Protect
The last (and extremely important step) is protecting your radiant, dewy complexation with a good quality SPF and a unique, breathable foundation. As mentioned, Cover Recover is perfect for applying directly after microneedling. It not only reduces your downtime but is a perfect ongoing addition to your routine for flawless everyday coverage. It’s also SPF 30 to shield against the harsh New Zealand rays!
