Can natural supplements support and balance our hormones?

Is it time to really listen to your body? Not many people know it, but hormone imbalances can be the root cause of so many irritating health symptoms we experience on a daily basis, everything from weight gain, low energy, bloating and mood swings through to anxiety, fatigue and painful periods.

These symptoms can also manifest physically in our body – think hormonal acne, thinning hair, puffiness and dry skin. The worst part is, these symptoms are often perceived as “normal”, particularly for women dealing with periods or menopause.

Of course there are synthetic hormones we can rely on to help regulate imbalances (prescribed from a doctor, for example the contraceptive pill, strong topical lotions or anxiety medication), however not everyone wants to opt for such a drastic choice that could result in other side effects.

Fortunately, some natural supplements are a fantastic solution to improve hormone imbalances, and a great option to try before resorting to something stronger that could cause other issues.

When used together with a healthy diet and lifestyle, supplements in the form of natural nutrients can effectively improve and restore hormone levels, resulting in a happier, healthy and more energetic you, plus glowing skin to boot! Here are some of our favourite supplements to help balance hormone health…

1. Kiki Health Body Biotics

Gut health is a huge part of our overall health, and a leading cause of inflammation if not addressed. Improving your gut bacteria can play a huge role in healthy hormone levels.

These vegan capsules use an ancient blend of 8 gut-friendly bacteria super strains, which are dormant, alive and thriving and trained in nature to withstand the harshest of environments (so they don’t need to be in the fridge!).

Once activated with water when you take one to two capsules per day, they begin to immediately multiply, re-populating the intestine with a beneficial balance of good bacteria.

Body Biotics Vegicaps

Benefits

✓ These vegan capsules are naturally dehydrated (not freeze-dried), with the SBOs (soil based organisms) rendered dormant as in nature and waiting to be ingested with an aqueous solution so they can, once again, thrive

✓ Once thriving, they provide the same bio-identical health benefits we used to enjoy before the introduction of harsh chemicals into our farming world in the mid- 1950s

✓ Effectively re-populates the intestine with a beneficial balance of friendly bacteria

2. Kiki Health Magnesium Oil

Magnesium is one of the most powerful minerals to help balance hormones, assisting to calm the body and reduce stress (especially if you’re often feeling anxious and in a “fight or flight” state). As well as soothing our nerves, relaxing muscles, reducing aches and pains and providing anti-inflammatory benefits, one of our favourite perks is zinc’s ability to assist with a better sleep.

Magnesium can also help with water retention to reduce that puffy, swollen feeling many of us know too well. Unlike oral versions, this natural, spray-on magnesium (sourced from deep in the Zechstein Seabed) is easily absorbed and transported directly to our cells for fast acting benefits - just spray onto your legs, feet or back before bedtime. Bliss!

3. Kiki Health Zinc

Due to modern farming methods and mineral-depleted soils, our fruits and vegetables aren’t as rich in this mineral as they once were, meaning zinc deficiency is incredibly common.

Why is this such a problem? Zinc is brilliant at regulating our hormones, and can actually raise or reduce levels depending on what our body needs. It’s crucial for the regulation of cell growth, hormone release, immunological response and reproduction.

It also helps improve our immunity, works to reduce inflammation (and can improve hormonal acne), regulates our stress hormones and improves our gut microbiome.

These plant-based capsules contain a high strength concentration of food state zinc (rather than synthetic), plus natural Vitamin C for absorption.

Kiki Health Food State Zinc

Zinc is an essential nutrient that plays many vital roles in your body, particularly due to its anti-inflammatory effects for acne and acne related scarring.

In fact, zinc is the second-most-abundant trace mineral in your body after iron, and yet your body can’t produce or store it. The only way to obtain it is through food or supplements.

Zinc and copper compete for the same absorption sites, and an abundance of zinc will lead to a deficit of copper. To avoid this, our zinc is mixed with copper.

4. Kiki Health Krill Oil

Krill Oil is high in essential fatty acids (Omega 3 and Omega 6), which cannot be naturally produced in the body.

These good fats will work wonders for your skin by nourishing it from within and balancing oil regulation in your body, for a healthier complexion regardless of whether your issues are dry, dehydrated, ageing or congested acne-prone skin.

The anti-inflammatory effects of Omega 3 have also shown to improve PMS symptoms and increase dopamine and serotonin secretion (reducing those mood swings!).

Each of these capsules contain Krill Oil sourced from the Antarctic, with naturally occurring EPA and DHC (fatty acids), phospholipids, triglycerides and astaxanthin.

Krill Oil Licaps

Benefits
✓ These soft easy-to-swallow licaps offer no fishy taste or after-effects
